The solar spinner simply a solar panel mounted on top of and wired to a DC motor and then covered by half of a plastic petri dish. the device balances on the motor shaft and spins when it is placed in the sun.
Materials
- 1 or 2 volt encapsulated solar panel with wires $96 from aliexpress
- DC motor (sometimes described as a solar motor, used for CD or DVD drives) $1.40 from aliexpress
- plastic petri dish
- double adhesive foam tape
Directions
- Solder the motor leads to the solar panel
- Attach the flat side of motor to the back of panel with 1" piece of double sticky foam tape. Make sure the motor is centered on the panel and the dish below.
- Tape the motor/panel assemble to the inside of a petri dish
- Drill a hole to fit the motor shaft into a dowel or block of wood and press the shaft in
